Behind The Scenes: Why We Changed Our Website

As someone who loves hearing about the in’s & out’s of businesses, I thought it’d be fun to take you along on a behind the scenes journey of this new rendition of JOM (otherwise known as Jewelia Orlick Meditation)

My friends started calling it JOM years ago & it just kinda stuck. So we’re rolling with it! Without further ado, here’s a little look into my world. Everything from my design inspo to how it started to the current collection of guided meditations.

 

HERE WE GO…

 

ORIGINS 

The routine of meditation started for me as a way to cope with a gradual loss, as well as the responsibilities of caregiving at a young age. Life is relative to our experiences. And that time period, like all the rest, was a phase. One that I’ve transitioned out of.


When I left that chapter, meditation stayed. It shifted to a practice of wellness and quite frankly, trust. Trust in the timing. Having faith that there’s a bigger reason, even if we can’t understand it just yet.


Surrender became increasingly important to me as a way to deal with anxiety, uncertainty, and doubt. Meditation was my access point to get inside my mind & calm down my fears.

 

THE IDEA

I was 20 when I first launched the OG version of this website. From the get-go, I always wanted it to feel like a safe space. A meditation oasis, if you will. One that was relatable. Not robotic. A place you felt you could escape to to connect back in with yourself.

Above it all, I wanted it to feel like you were meditating with a good friend.

When I left Hawaii because of visa complications. I was really struggling with the transition. During the waiting period, I decided to put my energy into creating things that I had been putting off. I set to work bringing this new vision to life.

 

MOODBOARD

It’s no surprise that I looovveee branding and aesthetics and making things look beautiful. Truthfully it’s one of my favorite things about the business space. Here’s a look at the moodboard that set the tone.

 

Pinterest’s biggest fan, that’s me haha. I wanted it to feel grounded, calm, and warm with visuals that made you excited to press play on your meditations. Alana, my good friend & web designer couldn’t have brought this to life more beautifully .

 

WHAT WE MADE

This new version of JOM feels so aligned with where I’m at at this point in my life. The meditations are heavily focused on creating a state of trust in your body - mind - and heart.

Each guided meditation addresses the fears, worries, insecurities, and doubts that we all face. 

I took away everything I thought I should be teaching because I was a “meditation teacher”, honing in on what I do best. I made it personal, reassuring, and relaxation based.

 

KEY ELEMENTS

Every meditation was designed with one of four main goals in mind. These are supported by various different techniques.

SOOTHE.

Practices designed to…

  • Release the knot in your stomach

  • Calm your anxious thoughts

  • Gently tend to your insecurities.

RELAX.

Practices designed to…

  • Sleep deeply

  • Regulate your nervous system

  • Prioritize rest

BE.

Practices designed to…

  • Find presence where you are

  • Feel at ease within yourself

  • Magnify your best traits

MANIFEST.

Practices designed to…

  • Find clarity through visualization

  • Surrender your ‘ideal’ timeline to the care of the Universe

  • Trust it’ll arrive when it’s supposed to

 

There will probably be so many more versions of her. But this is where we’re at now. I wanted to make the formal introduction so you know her just as well as I do.
