Connecting To Your Guardian Angels

I like to keep things down to earth here at JOM but after having used this in my personal practice for years, I obviously wanted to share it with you!

It’s a fun kind of mysticism, one that can bring reassurance and reflection to your life. Besides, if you’re reading this I have a feeling you’re into these kinds of things as well ;)

Meditation and the Angels.

From a young age I remember believing in allll the magical things. I would spend hours in the forest ‘playing’ with fairies. I had a necklace with the words ‘guardian angel’ on it that I felt so connected to. I even had this very distinct nightly routine of asking good spirits to keep my family safe. We weren’t religious growing up, so this was very much of my own accord. My own imagination.

My first real vivid experience of divine protection whilst in early adulthood was nine or so years ago.

My sister and I were heading to our cottage. I was driving, she was sitting in the passenger seat. The highway had been quiet for kilometers, not another car in sight. Laughing at something she had said, I took my eyes off the road for a second. We rounded the corner and in an instant my head turned back around to see a stalled vehicle directly in front of us. I was going 90 km an hour.

The only way to describe what happened next was that something else literally took the wheel. It all unfolded so fast that there was no time to think. In a split second we veered off, moving gracefully around the other car completely unharmed.

Had it not been for that intervention, the consequences could have been fatal.

I turned to my sister and said “Oh my god. I swear I didn’t even touch the wheel just then”

My sister (wise beyond her years) goes “Not our time, I guess”

I’ve actually heard similar stories from multiple people. This sort of ‘Jesus take the wheel’ interference.

That being said, it doesn’t take an intense experience to connect to angels or feel the presence of something bigger.

In fact, we probably want to avoid the dramatics, tread a little lighter, and go for the daily check in approach.

Many spiritual teachers say that we can call on them whenever. That protective forces are always there to support us, so long as we ask for their help.

So how do we tap into it? Strengthening our relationship to faith, trust, and something bigger? How do we allow ourselves to be guided?

Angel Cards.

Pulling angel cards after I meditate is something that I’ve gotten into the habit of doing.

The cards chosen are normally not a coincidence.

They usually address uncertainties that have been in our heads, recurring themes in our lives, or speak to lessons we’re supposed to learn in the current phase that we’re in.

It’s not uncommon to be talking to a friend about something earlier in the day, and then pull a card so specific that it acknowledges what you said. When you get goosebumps…that’s how you know it’s a real one.

Here’s my process…

Step 1: Meditate

Any meditation. Any length.

Step 2: Ask for Guidance

‘Dear Angels, what would you like me to know?’

Step 3: Pick a Card

I like to shuffle the deck and let one (or several) come out organically. You can totally make this your own. Try not to overthink, just do.

Step 4: Thank your Angels

‘Thanking you in full faith’

My personal go-to deck is…

I don’t always understand the cards that are pulled, however I do feel like it strengthens my faith. And that is something I cherish. Because it’s so easy to lose. When you can’t see the bigger picture just yet. And when you can’t understand the hand that you’ve been dealt.

Prayer.

This is one that I use for reference. I also wrote a blog post all about the power of meditative prayers here.

Dear Universe

Where would you have me go

What would you have me do

What would you have me say; and to whom

For my highest good

And the highest good of all those around me

Thanking you in full faith

(From a Course in Miracles)

Dear Angels

May you guide me

Protect me

Show me signs

And lead the way

It’s a sweet thought isn’t it? To believe that each one of us has someone watching over us, taking care of us. *cue that letter from the final scene in the movie Safe Haven*

It’s something that I practice, perhaps you feel drawn to it too.

It brings support, and I think we could all use a bit of that.

It’s also fun! Deciphering messages and meaning with our curious little hearts.

Maybe this stuff is real. Or maybe it’s all random. Really, there’s so much we don’t know.

Take what you need, leave the rest.

Do you feel connected to this more spiritual realm? Are there practices you do to deepen this connection? I love reading your stories. Let me know in the comment section below.
