12 Summer Wellness Hacks To Keep You Cool and Glowy This Season
With August in full swing, for most of us that means higher temps and packed schedules. The longer days and warmer nights infuse us with a go, go, go energy as we try to make the most of the remaining summer season.
Here are 12 summer wellness tips to keep you cool and feeling like your glowiest self…
Put your gua sha in the fridge before using it
Similar concept to an ice roller, but you can use your chilled gua sha to cool your face whenever you start to overheat. Not only is this great for lymphatic drainage, but it also provides temporary relief from sunburns.
Use an organic sunscreen
Make the switch to avoid the harsh chemicals. Yes, it’s more expensive but it’s way better for your body and the environment. My favourites are the Coola Sunscreen Matte Tint Mineral BB Creme (SPF 30) and the Éminence Lilikoi Mineral Defence Sport Sunscreen (SPF 30)
Do your meditation first thing in the morning
Summer is full of spontaneous late night adventures…from campfires to patio drinks to cottage BBQs. Be sure to do it first thing in the am before the day gets ahead of you. Browse my free meditation library here, we can do it together!
Have a cold shower before going to bed
Especially if you don’t have AC this will improve your sleep ten fold. Ever wonder why you sleep better in the winter? It’s actually because sleeping in cooler temperatures stimulates a higher melatonin production. Mimic this by hopping in the water before your head hits the pillow.
Take your self care practice outdoors
Take advantage of the beautiful weather by doing your journaling, yoga, or workout outdoors. Even better if you do it at sunrise or sunset to soothe your nervous system and reset your circadian rhythm. If you can do it barefoot, even even better! This helps with grounding.
Drink this watermelon juice
Refreshing, hydrating, and best of all, simple. Thank me later. Using a juicer (or a blender) — mix watermelon and lime. If you’re feeling fancy, you can even add some mint to the mix. SO good!
Apply peppermint essential oil
Little miss tells literally everyone she meets about the peppermint halo roller from Saje Wellness. This thing is my actual addiction. I can’t live without it. It smells amazing, keeps the headaches at bay, and has a cooling sensation I love during hot days. It even works for itchy mosquito bites! *Immediately adds another one to cart here haha.
Try these homemade frozen banana pops
I will never tell you to swap your ice cream for bananas…like, never ever. BUT when you’re wanting to go a little easier on your digestion, these frozen treats are good for your gut. Take ripe bananas and dip them into melted dark chocolate. Once the bananas are covered in a thin layer of chocolate, sprinkle your topping of choice overtop. Coconut flakes, drizzle of almond butter, etc. Anything goes. After that, stick them in the freezer. Once frozen, enjoy!
Hone in on the gratitude
Want an additional mood boost for energy and positivity? Think of 3 things you’re grateful for either right before you go to bed or as soon as you wake up in the morning. This will leave you feeling happy, and happy people glow different.
Swim as frequently as you can
I stand by the fact that water can be our greatest healer. In the summer, it cures all. Hungover? Jump in the water. Feeling sluggish from the heat? Jump in the water. In an AWESOME mood and want to make your day even better? Jump in the water. Ocean, lake, river, stream, waterfall…it’s all beautiful medicine.
Use a rose mist spray
Alright, another of my absolute GO-TO’s! From the ever so knowledgeable Magdalena who owns Woman Divine. This rosewater mist has changed my face. With regular use I hardly get any breakouts, even during the hotter seasons. I spray it onto my face after workouts or whenever I’m feeling overheated. Its ultra hydrating and balances the pH levels in the skin.
Focus on the now
As best you can, stay present with the joyful moments that are unfolding in front of you. It’s easy to get swept up in the “Oh nooo! Summer is almost over!" mentality. But you’ve still got time. Be where you are. Use affirmations like “I am here” or try out this free meditation for presence.
with love, jewels xx
I hope you enjoyed those! If you’ve tried any I would love to know! Also if you have any other summer wellness hacks we gotta know about, add them in the comment section below. Can’t wait to hear.
P.S. Did I listen to August by our girl Taylor Swift on repeat while writing this blog post for you? Yes. Obviously. ;)
